It's funny how some technology embeds itself into your core persona to the extent when you leave your job at said company, you carry on using their platforms in the belief you cannot live without them.
Well, I am quite adept at Linux, Windows and MacOS in general as well as all the Virtual hosting software like VMware, ProxMox and Nutanix AOS but I was asking myself the other day why it was that I locked up some impressive and expensive hardware and GPU fare to be able to demo a platform I don't really need in my home lab anyways, especially now that I am a Hitachi storage Guru once more.
The more I thought about it, the more I said mmmm, I could be using these CPU platforms to much more advantage with the full bare metal advantages sans virtualization gotchas and compromises, so what was with the virtualization bent exactly?
Last week I converted one of my Nutanix cluster machines to a Linux God Box and this week I am taking the other cluster box I was using to convert to another Windows 11 Chess engine because it is more useful to me this way and I get to actually use the massive GPU they both have.
In so doing I liberated my soul of the last vestiges of the Nutanix nightmare I had endured from November of 2023 to July 17th of 2024 while in their employ.
Right now, I have ZERO Nutanix AOS running in my home lab, it's all just Bare Metal Linux and Windows fare.
I feel extraordinarily liberated for some inexplicable reason...In fact the feeling is remarkably similar to the one you get after working on a farm with livestock like horses and pigs for a whole day and then having a good soaking shower and scrub to wash all the shit and grime off your body....
That kind of deep soul cleansing if ya know what I mean!
